Lim Channel
Lim Channel is this dramatic, narrow bay that cuts deep into the Istrian coast — it looks like a fjord. The water is calm, the cliffs are green, and the restaurants at the water’s edge serve some of the best oysters and mussels in Croatia.
Why Go
The oysters. This is where they farm them. You can eat them right at the source, pulled from the water that morning. Even if you think you don’t like oysters, try them here.
The setting. Tables literally at the water’s edge, cliffs rising on both sides, boats bobbing nearby. It’s beautiful.
Boat trips. You can take a boat tour into the channel from Rovinj or Vrsar. Nice way to see it from the water.
Where to Eat
There are a few restaurants at the base of the channel, all serving similar food — fresh oysters, mussels, grilled fish. Viking is the most famous, but they’re all good. Get a table outside.
Combine It With
The channel is on the way to Rovinj, so it makes sense to stop here for lunch and then continue to Rovinj for the afternoon. Or combine it with a drive to Poreč.
Fun Fact
They filmed parts of the 1958 movie The Vikings (Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis) here. The restaurant is named after the film.
About 45 minutes from the house. Worth the drive for a long, lazy seafood lunch.
