Windsurfing & Kitesurfing

If you’re into wind sports, you’ve picked a good spot. Ližnjan is known for reliable wind conditions, especially when the bora (northeast wind) blows. Kuje Bay is where the local surfers and kiters go.

Kuje Bay

This is the main spot. It’s a sheltered bay with a deep sandy bottom, which makes falls and big jumps a lot more forgiving. When the bora kicks in, the serious kiters turn up and the bay comes alive — but the wind here means business, so take a lesson before you go out. Even if you never leave the shore, it’s fun to watch.

Conditions

Best winds: Bora (NE) and Jugo (SE). The bora blows here through much of the year, which is why the spot has a name well beyond Istria.

Water: Shallow near shore, deeper further out. Sandy bottom.

Vibe: Local and relaxed. Not a big commercial scene.

Lessons & Rentals

There are instructors in the area who offer lessons. If you’re a beginner, don’t try to teach yourself — kitesurfing especially can be dangerous without proper training. Ask me and I can connect you with local schools.

Also Good For

SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) — when there’s no wind, Kuje and the nearby coastline are perfect for paddleboarding. Calm, clear water.

Bring Your Own Gear?

If you’re bringing equipment, there’s space at the house to store it. The beach is about 5 km away — under ten minutes in the car.
