Cape Kamenjak
This is where I take guests who want beaches without sunbeds and umbrellas. Cape Kamenjak is a nature park at the very southern tip of Istria — wild, rugged, and absolutely beautiful.
What to Expect
Rocky coves, crystal-clear water, and very little development. There’s a small entrance fee (around €6 per car), and then you’re free to explore. The park has dozens of small beaches connected by dirt roads and hiking paths.
My Favourite Spots
The cliff jumping spot — on the western side, there’s a famous spot where locals jump from the rocks. The water is deep and clear. Even if you don’t jump, it’s fun to watch.
Safari Bar — you can’t miss it. A ramshackle beach bar decorated with old boats, ropes, and driftwood. Cold drinks, simple food, swings over the water. It shouldn’t work, but it’s perfect.
The dinosaur footprints — real fossilised footprints in the rocks near the southern tip. Kids love this.
Practical Tips
Bring water shoes. The beaches are rocky and sea urchins are common.
Pack a picnic. Safari Bar is great but options are limited otherwise.
Go early in summer. By midday the parking fills up and the best spots are taken.
Rent bikes in Premantura. The park is big — cycling lets you explore more of it.
It’s about 20 minutes by car from the house. One of my favourite places in all of Istria.
